Stopping Time With the Susan Boyle Audition

The transformation of Susan Boyle's life forever, took just under three minutes. On January 21st, 2009 a chapel worker at the age of 47 decided it was time to take a chance at Englands top rating television show, Britains Got Talent. In what will be recorded in history as The Day of The Susan Boyle Audition, the chapel volunteer from Scotland burst on to stage and took the world by storm.

As she walked on stage, many snickered, others rolled their eyes. However, when Susan belted out the first line of the Les Miserables hit "I Dreamed a Dream", jeers very quickly turned to cheers. The show stopping performance that has been viewed online on more than 120 million occasions, has taken individuals by the heart and skyrocketed her to fame. The Susan Boyle audition "was one of the most extraordinary moments of the entertainment world in 2009," quote Oprah Winfrey.

Before this though, Susan's life was anything but extraordinary.

While Susan was very young, her Mother and Father were told not to expect much from the youngest of their nine children, Susan. During childbirth she was deprived of vital oxygen, leaving her with a slight disability.

He younger years where a tough time, Susan explains. "I did not make friends very easily. I couldn't trust anybody, and whenever I did try to speak to people, they would poke fun at me," she states. "So the only real escape from just about all that, truly, was music."

It had been an ongoing fantasy of Susan's to turn out to be a professional singer, but in 2007, when tradgedy struck with the passing of her mother, she stated she lost the dream of professional singing. "The loneliness truly set in, I understand that [my mom] meant me to do something with my life, however I did not know until I applied for the tv program." Susan describes.

In a nail biting final episode of Britain's Got Talent, Susan ended up coming in at second place to the amazement of her fans. Although this was certainly no show stopper for the release of her album, which tore up the charts to the number one position in no time.

With over 8 million sales around the world since its release in late 2009, I Dreamed a Dream by Susan Boyle has taken out the remarkable record of the number 1 selling debut album for a female artist of all time! "It's astounding. It's very humbling, as well" was Susans response to this.
