Essential Tips On The Types Of Marquees Available

By Sean Higgins

For many event planners, an outdoor celebration could not be possible without the use of a marquee. These structures allow for people to congregate outdoors in relative safety from the elements and still enjoy the ambience of the indoors. Guests can still feel like they are outside but not have to contend with direct sunlight and strong wind blowing about. With the different types of marquees available for use, it is necessary for to know which one is most suited to your event.

One of the earliest versions of these structures was probably the circus tent. Big canvas tents that accommodated the audience, performers and animals. While many traveling circus acts still use this medium, its use has since evolved.

At many wedding celebrations, tents are made use of. Entertaining guests outdoors has become a very popular option with white marquees used. The measurements to the tent usually depend on how many guests have been invited. They also need to be able to accommodate the band or performing DJ, with space for couples to dance. The side panels usually have space for a door and at times feature a window design that allows guests to look outside.

The tents are constructed using a system of poles that form a frame. Simple tents use a simple frame lifted atop poles to hold the roof in place. This version often does not include side panels. In this case the tent only offers protection against the sun. The rest is free to air. These types of marquees are often used at events where visitors need to easily move from tent to tent.

This design is not only popular at social events but also at businesses operated in the open. An example is with open air markets. Traders can easily set up the tents to protect their merchandise and the open walls easily allow customers to flow in and out of the area. They are referred to as frame tents because of their stark design. The lack of a central pole makes it easy for the trader to set up a product display.

Pagodas are another popular option. Their design features a small tent topped with an attractive single peak. They are often used as the entrance hall to an event. They are usually walled with canvas but in some cases they can be left open air and joined with others in a look similar to frame marquees.

Most tents are made up of the canvas covering and an aluminium frame. The frame is very important as it is what holds the canvas up. Aluminium is a good choice as it can be fixed firmly into the ground and is not too heavy to disassemble by hand. When properly fixed into the ground, it is able to withstand even strong gusts of wind. The frame is usually simple to assemble with parts interlocking.

Just as there are various types of marquees based on design there are also various rates that are applied. The more elegant the design, the more expensive it is. They are also built to accommodate various numbers of people hence one design can come at various dimensions. The larger the tent the more expensive it is. When making a selection, be sure to consider your budget, number of guests and the design you want.
