The Missionary call: Being a missionary

By Penelope Mandate Brown

When it was ordained by Jesus, "Go into the whole world", he was meant to speak to all those Christians who exist. But there could be a slight variation here. He does not say this to just an individual. He says this to the Church as one being.

The western world is a distinctive society with amazing individual merits, rights and liberties. People in the west often view things with an individualistic approach. Jesus is telling all Christians to go out in the world. He is asking for the body to go. He wants us to go together as one.

Why is it that necessary? The reason being not everyone can go everywhere in the world for mission works. And the command also does not proclaim that. For instance think about war. If America was to go out for a war, everyone in the country would be involved in a war, not just the military troops. The entire armed forces like the air-force, navy, the military, who are all battling it out. But even the medical professionals like the doctors, nurses, chefs, engineers, etc. who are also helping them out. Their jobs are also essential.

There are the others too like the staff working at the air-base who build military aircrafts with bombs, who construct army trucks for the needs of soldiers, there are people working out on the farms to provide food to the military, some other workers stitch uniforms for them, some take care of the economic growth by paying their income tax,if as such these people cease to work it will not only bring down the economy but the entire war efforts will go in vain. You can list endless possibilities

Everyone in the country cannot be involved no matter how much they want to go out on the battlefield when a war is declared. This is exactly how a Christian is called to missions. If an individual is called, it is obvious that the person will directly follow the orders that have been received. Although it is a call out to a group where everyone must participate in some way or the other. If needed, everyone should be able to volunteer to go, but there should also be individuals who should stay as a support to the ones who go. Both of them are doing their roles and performing for the cause. This is known as missionary work.
