A Cricket Fan Would Love A Sachin Tendulkar Biography

By Kristie Irwin

A Sachin Tendulkar biography has to be essential reading for any cricket fan. The 'little master' has done almost everything possible in international cricket. In March 2012, for example, he became the first man ever to score one hundred test match centuries.

However, his milestones in the middle are not the only fascination about this man. Somehow, he is able to keep calm under any circumstances. After all he has reached almost god-like status in his home country of India. The media there do not leave him alone for one second. Yet, he never seems to be fazed his existence in such a goldfish bowl.

His unflustered manner could be because he began so young. Tendulkar's represented India for the first time at only sixteen years old, against arch rivals Pakistan. He hit his first test century just one year later in England, where conditions are difficult. Then, aged just nineteen, he moved to England to play for Yorkshire. With that came the pressure of being the first non-Yorkshireman to play for the county in over a hundred years. Yet, in a game where every fact and figure is noted, he carries on breaking all the records.

The little master's cricketing journey has not always been an upward one. There were times when he could not reach the heights that had come to be his norm. This is inevitable given the way cricket is played, as well as the intense public pressure he experiences. When he was in his teens, he was already India's most talked-about sportsman. Added to this is that the population of India is over a billion. He must have felt he was letting an entire nation down. Experts were even uttering the unthinkable: his technical game had inherited some flaws. He had gained his reputation on the back of his fluid stroke-play, so this must have shocked him.

However, Tendulkar emerged from this bad form as a better cricketer and human being. His attitude was to get back to his top game and not look for excuses. He is mentioned in the same breadth as nineteen-thirties Australian legend Sir Don Bradman. Today sports journalists hype players up to great heights, and few can deliver. Even rare are those who can be referred to by one name alone: Pele, Babe, Tiger and Sachin.

Any cricket lover takes great pride in saying they saw Tendulkar play. The man has such a great aura that it is often overlooked that he is still active. In fact he reaches the same heights now as he did fifteen years ago. He can change his game around all types of cricket, be it the fast paced 20-20 to the more thought-provoking 5-day tests.

Fame has in fact been an advantage to Sachin. He has earned a large income through endorsements and his own food empire. Nevertheless, he invests a lot of time in charitable work and is a public face for several organizations. For instance has been the mouthpiece for AIDS Awareness.

Millions of cricket lovers will doubtlessly enjoy reading a Sachin Tendulkar biography because of his records and public image. Yet the personal journey is enthralling too. How a teenager was launched into the spotlight and to meet the high expectations and become a legend. Still along the way he has remained down-to-earth.
