Another amazing ship from LEGO, this time it's the Black Pearl

By Jack Villescaz

The LEGO Black Pearl Pirates of the Caribbean (Lego 4148) is a marvellous LEGO re-creation of the famed ship from Disney's Pirate movie series. Its content has close to a thousand bits, and includes six figurines from the movie. After the model is finished, it stands almost 2 feet high and twenty one inches long, which forms an amazing kit that can be terrific for play or as a stand alone display model.

Besides the regular LEGO package sets, you'll find black fabric sails, giving the set an uplifted caliber. The set comprises of 3 instruction booklets, and a sizeable size poster .

What you'll find in this set:

- 804 pieces in total.

- Measures 21 inches long x 20 inches high x 5 inches wide.

- 6 figurines including Captain Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Joshamee Gibbs, Davy Jones, Maccus and Bootstrap Bill.

- A very detailed interior cabin, firing canons, black fabric sails, Jolly Roger pirate flag and anchor.

- Aimed at ages 8-14.

This set is fantastic for the age group it is intended for. It's difficult enough to make it hard (especially for the ages closer to 8), but it isn't so difficult to make it mind-boggling for them. For instance, a youngster around eight to tens years old could assemble it in just a few hours, perhaps with a little aid from a grownup on a couple of sections, but overall it will be a lot of fun for them.

Once complete, the ship does look really good, and there is lots that a kid can do with it as far as play goes. Captain Jack's thorough cabin to explore, the firing cannons and removable floorboards are just some of the options of the package.

The package set does a terrific job at re-creating the storyline experience, and integrating fabric sails is an added special. LEGO could possibly have satisfied themselves with using just plastic, nonetheless the fabric does offer an excellent contrast. Even if not being played with, it makes for a wonderful display model.

Depending on where you browse, this LEGO set may cost somewhat expensive, thereby isn't the greatest valueHowever, there are many places in which the kit is sold for less than LEGO's recommended retail price, which is fantastic.

Other than the odd set having missing pieces (which will be sent out to you by LEGO), there's little else to say that is actually negative about the design. Most bad facets of this product are really minor and shouldn't affect your final decision to purchase it or not.

All in all, this set is very nice and recreates the Pirates series well. The included six characters are a great bonus, as extra characters help fill the deck and make the ship look busy. And so they provide much more play options for children. It is both an enjoyable experience to put together and extremely playable as well. We give this set a definite thumbs up.
