Some Tips On Moonbow Photography

By Bernice Terry

If one is hot and heavy in photography, then one of the things that he should aim for would be to get a clear photo of a beautiful moonbow or a moon rainbow. Now this kind of craft is called moonbow photography and takes a lot of preparation and attention to details. Now if one is interested in this particular field, then here are a few tricks that may help.

It pays to do a lot of research because this kind of occurrence is very rare and only happens during a full moon. That is why if one would want to capture it on film, then he has to observe the moon. If it is very bright and relatively close to the earth, then there is a big chance that the lunar bow will appear.

Now if one would want to shoot a good picture of the lunar bow, then he would have to get a really good angle. Now in order to get a good angle, one must stand on the top of a waterfall or a cliff so that he will be in an elevated position. Also, he must always follow the direction of the moon with his camera so that he will capture the bow when it comes out right away.

After doing some preparations on how to get the lunar bow, then the next thing to do would be to gather all of the equipment. Now one thing that the photographer should never do would be to bring out the flash. The flash may be useful in making the picture brighter but it will also destroy the light of the moonbow and will not show in the picture.

Now the most important piece of equipment would be the camera or preferably a DSLR type. Along with the camera, one must also bring a tripod because he needs to be able keep his camera still in order to capture the picture well. Of course if he has shaky hands, he will only take a blurred picture that will not be able to get the lunar bow.

Now in order to take a nice picture, one must take note of his surroundings. He must know that he is in an area where mists and fogs are very prominent and might fog up the lens of his camera. That is why he must bring something to protect his lens like a lens protector or a lens cover.

Another thing that will be of very big help would be a wide angle lens. A lens that can capture a big chunk of the scenery is very useful because one does not know where the bow would pop out. At least by doing this, he will be able to know where he can point the camera to get the lunar bow.

So as one can see, there are a lot of things to take note of when doing moonbow photography. As stated above, it pays to do a lot of research and a lot of homework on moonbows because they do not appear often. When they do, it is a very fortunate occurrence for any photographer.
