Arabic turban is a type of headgear that is based on cloth winding. Turbans are of many variations and are known by various names in different languages. The different names include sarik, dastar, bulle, dulband and pagri. They are worn by both genders for different reasons. Children usually wear tunics. The name pagri is commonly used in India and Pakistan.

Turbans have various meanings relying on the region and nationality. Kurdish head coverings are worn to signify both the clan and locality of the wearer. Headgears in Afghan form part of the national dress and vary according to personal style and regions. A turban serves the purpose of mintaining the head warm. They are a symbol of respect in certain communities as they are offered to guests as a sign of honor.

Various styles and colors can act as symbols for different regions, cultures and sects. Religions that insist on wearing bulles all the time suppose that their supreme being is all over. Turbans are worn by Indian men, Sikh men and Muslim religious elders amongst many others.

The color of the head wear worn on the cap can also differ. Some Muslim members prefer white colored dastars as they feel it is the holiest bulle color. Green color is thought to be the paradise color and hence green colored bulles are favored.

Power and wealth may likewise be shown by these head wears as observed in some parts of the world. Head wears made of fancy woven cloths and decorated with jewels are used for fashion. When used for fashion the dulbands are usually made to match with the worn clothes. Bullles can be temporal or permanently formed and sewn to foundations for easy removal.

A turban can be large or small depending on different reasons. Head wraps and scarves are similarly categorized below turbans. Varieties of turbans are used for medicinal purposes. An individual who is losing hair due to cancer treatments uses this headgear too. A turban can also promote isolation where non-wearers are looked at as minor beings and targets for various units.

There are some wide spread misconceptions about turbans. Some people associate them to certain terrorist groups. This can cause unnecessary doubts and suspicions. Turban wearers have been known to complain of various discouraging experiences such as refusal of entry in some countries and arbitrary arrests. It is important that people be educated concerning turbans to clear such misconceptions rooted in some individuals.
