Houston Museum Must-Sees

Houston museums of various types of fine arts, children's museums and museums that focus upon a range of significant areas of our history are all situated within the Houston Museum District. The icing on the cake about these Houston museums is that a lot of them are free to go to!

Houston museums are considered to be some of the finest museums in the country. Houston, being the biggest town in Texas, has a good selection of museums that appeal to both adults and children alike. There are very few other locations in Texas that museum buffs can visit this number of museums that are located in one place.

American Cowboy Museum

For those that have a special place in their heart for Native American history, the American Cowboy Museum is the location to be. Here, this museum dedicates itself to our western heritages and that of the native American indigenous tribes who were the very first to live and thrive on American land. The American Cowboy Museum features lecturers dressed in native American attire, speaking about the history of their American forefathers. If you used to be a part of the generation that used to love playing cowboys and Indians, then you will actually like this museum.

Children's Museum of Houston

Take your little ones to one of the biggest children's museum on the planet. Over 90,000 square feet constitute the unique Children's Museum of Houston. This enormous museum features assorted areas dedicated to facilitate in the learning process by making it fun and interesting for your child. The Children's Museum of Houston has everything from challenging interactive areas to areas that focus principally on teaching children in green subjects including energy conservation and water power.

The Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens

If your interests include varied forms of art, one of the best museums in Houston to have a look through is the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. Both of these museums feature both local and international art, some being artwork from the last 40 years. Much of the art is created by artists who otherwise would not have been discovered otherwise. Take the time to see what many have missed.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

One of the countries most visited and one of the most heavily visited museums in Houston is the Museum of Natural Science. This is certainly at the forefront of the list of have to see attractions when it comes down to Museums in Houston. Here you'll tour features like an observatory, a planetarium and an IMAX theater. The Houston Museum of Natural Science offers free general admission on Tuesdays after 2:00 PM.
