New Orleans is an enjoyable and varied city that has lots to offer travelers. Some of the highlights include the important French Quarter, busy Bourbon Street and obviously the savoury standard cuisine. Courtesy of a mixing pot of cultures the town boasts one or two fascinating museums to help visitors better understand the local history, art and heritage. Here are simply a few of the top museums in New Orleans

Louisiana Children's Museum

While much of New Orleans appeals essentially to adults there is still lots to enlighten and entertain younger children too. The Louisiana Children's Museum is among the best New Orleans museums for families and it conveniently found in the Central Business District just a quick walk from the French Quarter. Exhibits range all the way from topics like the body and basic machinery to local subjects like the history of New Orleans or understanding how a port operates in coastal towns. Visit to familiarize kids with the thrill of New Orleans and to learn a couple of things at the same time.

Historic New Orleans Collection

Those having an interest in the history of New Orleans should look no further than the Historic New Orleans Collection. This is an engaging way to better understand the way the town was shaped into what it is today. Exhibits cover the history of New Orleans, standard furniture, clothing and even foods that were eaten centuries ago in the city. Many visitors particularly enjoy the scale models of the French Quarter detectable over a period. This allows for a completely unique way to compare the form and size of the city today and even 100 years ago.

Audubon Nature Institute

There can be no way to deny that Mardi Gras is the most well liked and well-known event in New Orleans.
