Getting an Entertainment Job in Hollywood

By Philip David

In Hollywood and looking for an entertainment job? As a person that has worked in the TV Network and Music Industry for over 20 years, let me give you the breakdown.

With entertainment companies like Geffen Records, Lions Gate, ABC, Disney, Universal, MGM, Interscope Records, The Cartoon Network, E! Entertainment, Warner Bros, Sony Music, Paramount, CBS and MTV, there are endless opportunities.

Every single month, 50,000 people move to Los Angeles to hit it big in the entertainment industry. From musicians, to comics, actors and models, the mecca is Hollywood for those wanting to break into the entertainment industry.

Relationships is key in the entertainment industry. At the end of the week, people associate with, 1. who they like. 2. who they know. 3. who they trust.

The first step is to locate a job.

Websites listing entertainment jobs is a great start. Our top 4 website choices to finding entertainment jobs.

1) hollywoodentourage.com: HollywoodEntourage.com is the top pick. The site is FREE. A great website for casting, entertainment jobs, musician/bands, comic/comedians gigs, rooms for rent and modeling gigs. I love this website: It has everything from make-up artists to head-shots.

2: craigslist.org: Craigslist historically is the longest running website. A solid website to find entertainment jobs, however you have to weed out spamming ads and adult ads.

3) hollywoodentertainmentjobs.com: Hollywoodentertianmentjobs.com is a entertainment jobs only site posting on a daily basis. They post mostly Los Angeles and New York jobs and have a very large selection. Focuses on jobs alone and is subscription based.

4) Backpage.com: Backpage is comparable to craigslist minus the traffic. A fair site but you will have to locate through non-entertainment based.

The second step is to network.

Networking is an important element to building relationships in the entertainment industry. Hollywood has endless places to network at. From open mics, to clubs, facebook, twitter and friendships, etc. You never know when your next opportunity will come so its important to stay on your A-Game.

The third move is to get in the door.

Start with an intership or an assistant is a good starting point. This is a great way to build your friendships. If you progress as an assistant, bigger and better opportunities will await you.
