Important Techniques Of Abstract Watercolor Painting

By Madeline Finch

Abstract watercolor painting is the art of using water based colors to express or send a message. It mainly involves use of lines. Many people have never known the secret behind the success of many artists who perform so well in this field. The two main things that are important is learning and improving your skill. This kind of field is not easy as people think, but requires special practice and training to perfection.

For ages artists have been using the art to make many images like portraits. They not only did it on papers, but also canvas, leather, plastics and wood. Basics should be learned, especially by beginners as they help them in their work. They help in giving techniques of drawing clear images that can pass message to viewers. They also explain various styles that are useful in artwork.

First one should learn to mix colors on the palette and make the color you want. This is facilitated by first knowing what you expect to get when you mix different colors. This is because when a mistake occurs, the final color will have a very different shade; therefore, knowledge on blending of colors assists in making a desired one. In short, using of techniques and colors wisely and accurately is the main theme when making paintings.

The color use in this art accepts removal by washing and scrubbing readily although it is expensive. This is because this action can only take place on expensive papers. They are suitable and weigh between 140 and 300lb, unfortunately, papers are the only material used and of course other specific materials that are also expensive. Cheap papers weighing 90 lb are difficult wash since they fold at the background.

To remove mistakes, utility knife or an eraser can do an excellent job. Even so, care should be taken when choosing the colors to use to avoid making the work appear muddy or dark, a situation that is difficult to correct. Learn to first use light colors, followed by darker ones. With this, one is able to remove excess paint more easily, especially when your work is wet.

The paint is versatile as one can use with pen, other paints, pastels, inks. Nevertheless, one should avoid muddying the work with a lot of paint since it makes the work look exaggerated. This is a challenge facing artists and to prevent this is to learn using light colors like alizarin crimson at the background them shade it with dark colors.

Another good thing about this art is the portability of the watercolor, a good factor in case the artist travels places. The colors are usually packed in sets and have small containers and brushes for mixing. One only needs pencil, a towel and more containers when traveling in order to continue doing the work while still in your journey.

Additionally, the colors are non-flammable, odorless, and non-toxic, dry quickly and dissolve more easily in water, not forgetting they are disposable. To develop art work together with artists, abstract watercolor painting should be appreciated. This will motivate them as well as encourage them to come up with more quality work.
