Dance Talent Competitions And Shows On Television

By Karina Frost

It seems like all current television shows related to dance are contests. There used to be a number of television shows featuring movement, American Band Stand and Soul train, are memorable ones. While this was the case in the past, it seems the present and future is focused on dance talent competitions.

These competitions can be on a grand scale like America's Got Talent, or a local school event. While some are free, others cost a great deal of money to enter. To find the contest that works best for current age and skill level, it is often best to read a variety of reviews before entering any contests.

All have different rules and guidelines. Whichever competition one finds oneself in, it is important to follow those listed at all times. Otherwise, dancers can be faced with the possibility of disqualification

When participating in any competition, it is important to wear creative costuming, have amazing choreography and self-confidence. When these elements are present, dancers often win. Whereas, when working without a choreographer or costumes, and performing with a lack of confidence, a win is most likely out of the picture. Those who do not win, need to remember the same judges may be present at other events and avoid confrontation and take losses as a motivation to work harder before the next competition.

Individuals interested in movement may also want to check out a few different blogs related to dance. There are also other publications like newsletters and magazines, online and off, that can provide a great deal of insight and inspiration to those involved in competitions. Blogs, and these other publications are also a good way to find out about different dance contests.

When blogging, it can often be easy to have discussions and communicate on forums. In doing so, individuals can acquire a great deal of information which can help one succeed in a contest, and in life. As there are often hundreds, if not thousands of people subscribing to different ones, the internet has become a mega source for good quality information on contests and other events.

It is important when posting to blogs, or commenting on other articles to be as kind and professional as possible. If not, most Administrators and owners will often provide a warning, which if not followed can lead to being banned from a website, either for a short period, or, for life. As such, it pays to be kind, especially when communicating with others online.

It is probably also best to sign up with multiple blogs and read a variety of reviews. When this is the case, individuals can often find quality information on different forms and styles of movement. Individuals can also find information which can be useful in knowing how long to rehearse and other information related to preventing injuries.

While some prime-time television shows may be considered reality, in reality these are variety shows. Shows like America's Got Talent is a variety show. Whereas, shows like Do You Think You Can Dance are actual focused contests. The same thing can be said for those related to music, American Idol and The Voice are not variety shows but rather vocal contests. As such, when looking to become involved on competitions on a larger scale, it is often best to focus on one which highlights a specific talent.
