Many Times A Great Food Packaging Illustration Is A Deciding Factor

By Marcia Marks

When designing a product there are always several aspects of the product mix to take into account. Price, place and promotion are just some examples of these. However, probably the most interesting and directly influential piece of the product mix is the packaging. A perfect example to explore this idea would be through the medium of food packaging illustration. The food industry is a highly competitive one. Visitors to the supermarket hallways are always inundated with hundreds of different and colorful about which brand of food to buy.

Luckily there is a wealth of people who are just so design oriented who are more than willing and able to do the work for those who haven't a clue. There are a number of steps to be taken however in finding and organizing such a project. Following these simple steps will ensure a smooth and successful project in the creation of your brand logo.

First off, always remember to design your packaging with clarity and simplicity. Potential customers need to be able to tell right away what will be in the box before they take it. Failing to register this within the mind of the consumer may result in them disregarding your product as they have no idea what they are buying. Also important in this is the recognition of your brand. Building brand awareness is important to bringing back returning customers. A catchy slogan or impressive logo will go a long way towards helping your brand in this regard.

Secondly in the list of important packaging decisions is that of honesty. Never advertise something on the box that isn't in the box. When customers open the box they have a certain expectation of what they are going to find inside. Do not mislead them in this way as disappointment may lead to a loss of belief and may serve to alienate certain customers from your brand.

Thirdly, an important decision to make is that of your choice of type. A custom type seen in such logos as that of Coca-Cola will delight to the eye and show that your brand is unique and inventive. Standard lettering shows no attempt to be original or take any risks and will not impress anything upon viewers and customers.

Shelf impact is another idea to take into consideration. What will the packages look like when they are placed side-by-side in large numbers? How will they fit together or stack-up? Streamlined or inventive ideas in this regard will pull customers to your section of the store and will ensure success as more and more of your items fly off the shelves.

The final tip to keep in mind is that of practicality. For example storing your ketchup or sauce product in an easy squeeze bottle may swing customers into choosing your product over that of your competitor. People love simplicity and ease and pandering to this need will help to sell your brand.

So never forget these important tips when it comes time for you to design a logo or food packaging illustration. A bright and enticing logo is necessary to develop brand awareness and informs customers about the ideals behind your company and or brand. Instilling these thoughts in the minds of your customers will develop loyalty from them and keep them returning to your brand again and again. Adhering to this will satisfy both you and your customers and make sure that everyone wins.
