Finding Great Science Fiction Books For Kids

Parents know how important it is to encourage their children to read. Reading is a lifelong habit that usually begins in childhood. Finding some really exciting and compelling literature is the best way to capture a child's imagination and get them reading. Some good science fiction books for kids is a great place to start.

Imagination is a powerful thing and children are usually happy to read a book that challenge the parameters of our everyday lives. They also love to find a series that follows a group of characters. It is best to start with the first book in a series, but if they happen to stumble upon something they really love, they will be able to go back and start at the beginning.

There are excellent science fiction works for readers of all ages and levels. Even those who have just started to read independently will find some great titles. Anything with an alien in the title seems to jump off the shelf and fascinate the child. Most of the works for younger reader are beautifully illustrated and will quickly become family favorites.

As kids get a little older and more proficient readers they will find more than enough great literature to keep them busy. One of the newest series to hit the book store shelves is the adventures of the young Artemis Fowl. This highly acclaimed series has young readers captivated. All the most best elements are included, magic, technology and the faerie world.

There are some extremely popular authors that kids just love. One of these is Dan Gutman. He has written many books that involve time travel. Children will often sit and read the entire book at once, just to find out what happens in the end. Many of his works feature famous historical figures, particularly inventors and they have a strong educational element.

Science fiction has been a popular genre for many years. The wonderfully imaginative Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne was written over a hundred years ago. The action and adventure has been thrilling readers since then and has even been made into a great movie. Some stories seem to have a universal appeal to readers and this is one of them.

Elementary level readers for over fifty years have been enjoying the classic book The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet by Elenor Cameron. This wonderful story follows the adventures of two boys who build their own rocket and blast off into space. Many parents have rediscovered their own love for this book whilst reading it to their own children. It has become one of the most treasured family favorites.

Movie adaptations of a popular book also helps to get children reading. One example of this is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Many young people saw the massively popular movie and were inspired to read the book. Science fiction books for kids are always popular and The Hunger Games has proved that this remains true today.
