Recruiting Corporate Entertainment Acts For Events

By Matthew Roberts

When it comes to performing, there are many venues in which a performer can do so. In some cases, corporate entertainment acts entertain members of a board, company employees, shareholders and authorized visitors in a board, conference room or auditorium. One act currently on the forefront of this type entertainment is that of magic acts by well known magicians.

In most cases, those performing at these locations are not always well known artists. In fact, a number of entertainers offer these services free of charge as a method of advertisement. Whereas, there are others whom work for little pay when performing at clubs and restaurants. Most recently, magicians have become very active in performing at companies and corporations.

In more general terms, acts doing this type of performance are often considered private events. In some cases, entertainers may provide a performance at conferences, conventions, holiday parties or retreats. Whether a comedian, magician, motivational speaker, musician, performance artist or poet, all have something to offer. At the same time, it is important that any performer know and understand the corporate policies and rules with regards to behavior, dress and language.

If looking for an entertainer to perform during the holidays, it is often advised that booking agents and company representatives do so well in advance of the date requested. For, entertainers of all types often book up early during this time of year. As such, to assure obtaining the type of entertainer and performance desired, it is always best to get an early start.

Many of these performances are booked by booking agents from local corporate event planning firms or booking agencies. As such, there is often a fee associated with the firm or agency in addition to the entertainer. Whereas, if the company were to hire an entertainer on a contract or freelance basis, no such fee would be required. As a result, contract and freelance entertainers are often paid at a higher rate.

When it comes to different types of entertainment, performances can range from a Keynote Speaker at a General Opening Session to excite and motivate the audience to a pianist playing at conference. If there is a theme associated with the event, the performance is often based on that theme. Regardless, it is important that those performing and those attending arrive at the date and time specified on the invite.

When it comes to birthday parties, holiday parties, weddings and other events whether in private homes, hotels, restaurants or theme parks, performers often work with a verbal agreement and advance payment. While this is the case, when working with companies, corporations, event planners or booking agencies, it is always advised that performers request a contract. It is important the contract include the agreed upon pay rate, along with everything that is expected of the entertainer at the time of the performance.

In most cases, entertainers performing at corporations are paid at a higher rate than those performing in other venues. At the same time, it can often be hard for some individuals to follow corporate guidelines with regards to dress, language and behavior prior to, during and after the performance while on the property where the event is being held.
