How To Appreciate Literary Entertainment

By Patty Goff

Words are one of the main ways people communicate on any given day. Words have the ability to inform, but they can also be very entertaining depending on how they are used. In literary entertainment, words are put together in such a way so that they bring pleasure to the world. This is mainly in the form of fiction such as novels, poetry, and short stories. Here are a few ways in which one can appreciate this body of work.

If an individual reads books they do not like, they are simply creating a problem for themselves. Reading becomes laborious and by the end of it, a person might think that they have just wasted their time. Yet, they feel the need to try and fit in even though it is not who they are. The solution to this is quite simple and that is to read what one likes.

For example, if a person is into Science Fiction movies, they might find an interest in this type of literature. There are many movies out there that have been created based on various novels. Many times directors or screen writers will ask an author for their permission to translate their work so that it can be put on the big screen. It might be easy to appreciate a book if a favorite movie is based on it.

Another way not to appreciate fiction, is to forget about understanding literary devices like metaphors and similes. Many authors use these devices in order to help create a new way of seeing the world. If a person is not familiar with them, they might be not be able to comprehend what they are reading.

It also helps to understand the authors point of view so that one's personal views can be placed in perspective. If one decides that they do not need to listen to interviews the writer has done or read about them, they might miss some valuable information that might help them enjoy their readings a bit more. They may not see what they are reading as entertaining.

Subjectivity is always a part of any form of art including fiction. One person might get something out of a book while a different individual might have a different take on the interpretation. In the end, one explanation is not better than the other. It is simply a matter of how one sees the world and how they interpret what they see.

On the other hand, having a personal opinion is good too, if one does not try to make that opinion the standard. Everyone has a right to look at a piece of writing from their point of view. Doing this will cause a person to enjoy their reading and get the most out of it.

People who love to read, tend to be the ones who will always have a book with them. They do not do this because they have to, but due to how entertaining it is. A good reader will always find fiction a pleasure since it gives them a new way to see the world and also helps to develop their imagination.
