All You Need To Know About Turbans For Men

By Henrietta Gross

There are quite a number of uses for turbans for men. One common problem that people have with these garments is that they mistakenly link them with terrorism. Obviously, this is quite fallacious as there are different types of people who wear them but have no relationship whatsoever with terrorists. The following are the major groups of people who don them.

One of the groups of people who wear these special cloths are Sikh men. These people do not cut their hair because they treat it as God's creation and therefore a very sacred item. In addition, they also have long beards which are neatly tucked inside the turban. Although most people assume that Sikh are very rare, they are spread all over the world including Europe and even North America.

For Muslims, turbans are usually worn alongside a round cap which comes in varying styles and colors. For them, these garments represent something unique especially when the color is taken into consideration. Because of the fact that one of their prophets, Mohamed, wore a white one, it is common to find most of them preferring the same color.

Afghan men have been wearing a unique type of turban for ages. These can either be long or short depending on the preference of the person wearing it. In addition, there are those who don't wear these cloths at all but instead prefer to just put on a hat.

Men who live in Iran prefer to tie either a black or a white turban. The most common mode of wearing them is in a circular style round the head. There are those who claim that these garments originated in this region and were actually known as dulband then.

In India, turbans are worn to symbolize the profession, class or religious taste of the wearer. Due to this, there are those who prefer to even put jewels or fancy colors on them. Those who are particularly rich can beautify their cloths in a special way so that one can tell from a mile off their class.

There is a type of turban which has gained a wide popularity of late. It is called the kaffiyeh and is the one which was commonly worn by the late Palestinian leader called Yasser Arafat. Due to this, there are those who thought that the kaffiyeh originated in Palestine. In actual fact, the kaffiyeh has always been worn by men who live in Saudi Arabian and Jordan. A kaffiyeh can either be worn in black or white.

Turbans are worn by those who live in the deserts as a form of protection for their faces. This is due to the harsh conditions that exist here all the year round. Other tribes wear them in order to conceal their identity from visitors. For other tribes, it is a form of identity depending on the color and style of this cloth. It is difficult to believe that turbans for men could mean so much yet they only appear as simple pieces of cloth.
