Some of the world s most famous singers got their start by joining a choir. How about that? Here is what they need to keep in mind before they start showing off their vocal prowess.

Well for starters, the choir is a great way to make the shy among us get out there and open up. As daunting as it may sound at first, there s always the music to distract a person from the nerves that may or may not ravage their body. Plus it s a nice little way of getting friends and family, and sometimes a crush to watch you perform.

When babies are restless, their mother/guardian often sings to alleviate whatever may be bothering them. When children cry, a good way and old trick in calming them down are by busting out the vocal chops. So one can imagine what singing can do for a person in a bad mood or going through some things that seem to be weighing them down. Consider it an emotional pick-me-up or a feel-good drug that s taken all the time.

Things that can be overcome through participation and the support system offered by peers who are most likely feeling the same way.

To see the world, other cultures and how other groups of people produce different kinds of sounds even though what they do is no different to what your choir does. And if singing happens to be a dream on has cherished since they were young, here s a glimpse of the fast life.

Who knows, all that fooling around before or after rehearsals could end up as an origin story for an acceptance speech once a Grammy is won. Performing on a constant basis helps one gain control over nerves and butterflies in the stomach rather than the other way round. And the more it s done the more confidence they become. And nothing makes a person feel better than a person feeling and radiating confidence because even the impossible not only starts but it becomes possible.

Because there s a lot of multitasking involved, singing amongst other talented people does wonder for the brain. Especially in the departments of memory. So much so, it s able to lend a helping hand to those suffering from dementia. Otherwise, choral singing helps with overall posture and improving one s breathing.

Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol and only the brave can try the last part. But because choral singing builds confidence why not? After all, it is just another benefit to add to the countless of others that joining a choir adds. Not only to one s mental health but social and physical wellbeing.
