By Jerry Patterson

A successful production is defined on how actors convince the multitude through their acting prowess. The facade of the stage must also suspend the disbelief of the multitude by making them feel like they are living in the place and time when the story is set. However, the aforementioned factors of a successful production are not the only ones in existence. Theater Makeup is also among them. The actor must not only act the part but look the part, as well.

The applications of makeup greatly helps in the making the actor look young or look old. A female actor can be made to look male and vice versa, and an actor can even be transformed into a different creature. It does not only contributes in making the audience induce, but also contributes in the inspiration the performer must have enable for him or her to have a powerful performance.

Many are the purposes of stage makeup. Blemishes or scars are able to be covered up by it in scenes wherein the actor must look refreshed. It is also for the enhancement of dramatic impact or effect to the those who are in the stadium.

The story must also be the one that is loved by the directors. Directors and script writers are to spend most of their days in making a production a successful one. Hence, the selected story must be the one most capable of letting their creative juices endlessly flow.

The decorators must also be meticulous in the designs and must be well informed about the era where the story is set in. This includes the lights, the sounds, props and the costumes of the actors. The director must have brainstorming sessions with the decorators for the designs to convince that the attendees are witnessing happenings from the past or on the future.

A calendar of events should also be made or devised by the director. It is inevitable to have delays during the preparation which may result in having negative feedback from the public. Directors should also share the calendar of events to every person in the preparation.

The calendar of events must be respected by the director and the staff should have the same conviction, as well. Also, every rehearsal should begin exactly on the time it is planned and end exactly on time. For time not be wasted, every person should maintain focus and must actively participate even during scenes which their parts are not included.

Theatre companies must also be finicky in the person whom they want to employ. There might be a need of putting up many auditions just to find the perfect actors. Yet, perfect actors should not be the only ones the director should look out for, the director should also look out for the perfect production staff.

Theatre production is an art the touches the soul of the audience. The impacts of movies and television series are nothing compared to the impact given by a successful production. This magnificent art will stay relevant for many years to come.
