Facts About Modest Islamic Clothing

By Dorothy Walker

One of the most widely practiced culture in the world is Islam. It is renowned for its strict regulations in their attire and mode of worship as well. However, these regulations differ with the different factions within it and which most are considered to be lenient enough. This article details elements in modest Islamic clothing believers are expected to take heed of.

Men are supposed to check on haram practices. Anything against their teaching is regarded as haram. Men, in particular, are required to avoid silvers and silk which are meant to be worn by females as decorations. Their underneath attires should be done tailored above their ankles. Having them at that position indicates their humility since they will not be easily soiled. It is believed one who intends to soil their clothing does this out of pride knowing they have different garments to change to.

Wearing is not meant to flaunt and imitate others. Muslim brothers must wear simple clothing which does not exhibit their wealth or does not undermine others. Even so, they are expected not to imitate others be it, women or non-Muslim fellows. It is thought that their imitation of non-Islam might simply coerce them into believing and adopting their values.

Every woman is required to hide most of their body part. One cannot expose their body apart from their hands or head, but this can differ depending with factions. This should particularly be observed in the presence of non-Muslims. Traditional attire is regarded to be black to avoid seeing through the material. Lenient members consider any color as long it is not a see me through the material and does not show the appearance of their body.

Head dresses differ depending on the faction. Conservatives prefer the burka and niqab which completely conceal their head. Burkas have gone to the point of leaving a mesh on the head gear where the woman can look through. Niqabs, on the other hand, are simple covering that leaves the eyes region open. For chadors and hijab, women expose their face, but chadors are the extension from their cloaks meant to cover their head.

Ladies underneath clothing can go as far as their ankles and can make a preference to any other suitable apparel. They should not expose their bodies to Muslim brothers without any close ties. Otherwise, they can put on other outfits to their brothers or any other male relatives. Children who are not way below their puberty stage do not pose any threat.

All the same, these regulations have changed depending on western countries laws. Most have banned the use of niqabs and burkas since they conceal faces which they expect them to be exposed for security purpose. Others have intermarried with other cultures although it is greatly discouraged but have managed to adopt into new ideologies as well.

Change of their fashion does not mean they have completely adopted the western culture. They have only adjusted their fashion in a manner that it still maintains its expectation. Men wear simple but decent western clothing with which identifies them as Muslim. Most women have maintained the traditional head cover with scarfs, but they can afford to wear a loose, casual wear which is equally relevant to the regulations.
