Faux Fur Throw A Gorgeous And Practical Coverlet

By Jose Morris

There is very little on the earth more soft, warm or beautiful than real fur. Since the earliest stirrings of human tribes, animal skins have been utilized to stay warm and cozy in wintertime. Skins have been used as clothes and blankets for many millennia. The modern counterpart of this extremely practical and comfortable cover is a faux fur throw.

With many animals now on the critically endangered list and attitudes to animal slaughter for their skins drastically changed, a real fur coat, blanket or rug is considered in poor taste. However, the natural beauty and warmth can be created from modern artificial fibers which animal friendly. Modern fabrics have the look and feel of the real thing without the need for hunting or farming animals for their skins.

An imitation leopard skin or bear skin can be just as beautiful as the real thing. The fibers used can achieve the same warmth and softness. A blanket made from such a fabric is an ideal cover for a sofa or day bed in winter. It can transform a cool leather or harsh cord into the warmest, most comfortable place to snuggle.

The range on offer is even wider than nature can provide. Purple polar bears might not exist, but if you love the texture of that fabric and want to match your drapes then there are companies that can fulfill your wish. Many companies have a wide range of styles, colors and sizes to meet all needs. You may be looking for a cover for your sofa, a blanket for a king size bed or even something for your pet to keep them warm in winter.

Even just a quick look on the internet will bring up a number of ranges on offer and give you a guideline for costs. Many of the manufacturers and retailers ship overseas so check costs for shipping when working out the final price. While most sizes are available to suit standard beds or couches, there are also manufacturers who can make your cover bespoke so you will get exactly the shade, size and pattern you want.

Most of the coverlets are backed with a different material than the furry front. There are lots of options to choose from and it is worth taking a little time to think about how you will be using your coverlet. Satin or silk backing may slide off leather while a more durable suede-like fabric is more appropriate for pet bedding.

The absolute ultimate in comfort and warmth is to have a throw which is double-sided. These can be manufactured using the same faux fur on both sides or a complementary one. You could select a leopard print for one side and a plainer chinchilla style for the other side. It is worth noting though that just like the natural counterpart the manmade fabric is quite heavy so when you double the furs, you also double the weight of the finished cover.

Taking care of your purchase can easily be achieved by dry cleaning or gentle hand washing. Your supplier should provide care instructions depending on the exact model you have chosen. If you are going to use your purchase as a pet bed it is worth selecting one that can easily be machine washed on a gentle setting as pet bedding often requires more frequent washing.
