By Matthew Lee

Many photographers choose to do commercial photography after perfecting their skill. This could be for the need to search for greener pastures or as a hobby. However, this level of photography is not always a walk on the park. It calls for patience, dedication and proper marketing of your work to get reliable clients. Before getting discouraged, any aspiring advertising photographer can use the following ideas to market their work and enjoy success in this field.

It is not enough to have photography skills only. Conversely, you will need to invest in high quality tools and software. For instance, choose the latest version of photoshop and learn how to use. It will help you edit your photos and make them match your client needs. On the same, look for good cameras, stands and props to use in different shooting occasion.

Once you have the tools, it is necessary to begin marketing your skills to gain clients. The idea is to have clients discover your talent. Otherwise, it will be challenging to find some since most will want to work with re-known photographers whom they are certain about their quality of results.

You could offer your services for free at charity organizations just to get word out about your skills. Just contact the coordinators and request to offer your shooting services for free whenever they hold either outdoor or indoor event. During these events, make sure you have interacted with the invited guests and other people to create a rapport. Of importance is to inform them about your shooting business venture.

Create a website detailing your service. Make sure to a pop up feature that prompts anyone who visits your websites to key in their email address. After which the client is guided to a free download pdf file which has fine details of your business. Thereafter, use this address and send a personal email to each person persuading them to consider your shooting business in future.

You can also come up with a stamp showing details of your business. In this case, consider stamping every photo at the back. You can stamp with captivating words to emphasize your business. Those viewing the photos will always have a way to contact you should they be interested in your work.

On the same breath, try old school methods of marketing such as sharing as many business cards as possible as well as getting contacts from potential clients in an event you attend. Be ready with your cameras to take photos of the proceedings for display. Immediately after the event, you may pitch a tent somewhere strategic and stick some of the photos to let the potential clients see the quality of your work.

Also, you can identify some of your friends who have offices in strategic location and request them to have your well designed, customized and adorable photos stuck on their office walls for free. On those photos, put a sticker which shows the price of the photo and your contacts as well. Their customers will get in touch with you should they be interested in your work.
