A Guide On How To Draw Scenery

By Lisa Perry

Drawing scenery is extremely interesting because it would enable one to capture on canvas what normally people would need a camera to capture. Of course in order for one to create something beautiful there are actually some steps to do so. This guide will enable one to learn how to draw scenery the proper way.

Now the first step of the process would be to find out what the focus point of the portrait would be. Now if one is just a beginner at this, he should know that the focus point is the point of origin for the artist. In other words, this would be the point that the artist is looking straight at from his angle.

When one has already determined what his point of origin would be, then he has to mark it with a dot so that he will know where to base the drawn structures. Now in order to further make things easier later, he has to draw some lines that come from the dot. This is drawn lightly so that one will not have a hard time later on when he will be placing the structures like the buildings and others.

Next thing that has to be done would be to lightly sketch the horizon line. Basically, the horizon line would show until where the land would be and anything above the horizon line would already be the sky. Basically, this line would just indicate where the horizon of the drawing would be so that one will have an easier time with the drawing.

After all those lines, one may then add some of the structures like the people, the trees, the buildings, or the sun depending on what he would want to sketch. Now going back to the focus point, one has to make sure that everything near the focus point would be smaller than the structures near he corners. To put it simply, one should draw things smaller as he gets to the focus point. The principle behind this is that the structures nearer to the corners are zoomed in from the view of the artist.

Now the biggest structures are the ones nearest to the corner as they are far from the origin point. For those who are curious as to why, it is because it is at those points that things are zoomed in. So whenever one sketches some scenery, those are some of the things he has to remember.

Now most likely, one would want to add some shading so that the picture would really come to life. The trick here is to first figure out where the source of light of the scenery would come from. After that, one has to shade the part at the other side of where the light is facing.

So for those who would want to sketch a portrait of some scenery, here are some tips. Sketching is not as easy as most people think it is. It is actually systematic and requires a lot of techniques.
