Jazz Music As A Genre

By Katina Brady

This is a type of music that is widely spread across many nations of the world and is food to the soul for many. However, it has its origin in the black American community who use to sing the songs as work songs. Each nation has its own special taste in this music due to the different cultures. The article below talks all about jazz music.

Jazz is heavily reliant on other forms of music to compose. It has its roots in early forms of genres such as the blues and folk songs especially those which use to be sung by the captives in the years of slavery. It is these rhythms that kept them united and gave them strength to facing each new day with hope of freedom.

Composition of jazz is not an easy task to undertake. One cannot just sit down and come up with words hence making a song like it happens in other forms of music. As observed during the various performances, it is usually performed by a band. This means that effort put is based on the input of each and every member of the group hence a lot of cooperation is required.

Its a rather freestyle type of euphony and performers are allowed to add a little bit of everything to spice up their delivery on stage. This includes putting in a few rhymes of their own which acts as a signature move giving the song more originality and ownership to the team which composed it.

Jazz has an advantage of marking the history of African-American society, conserving their culture and often reminding them where they came from. They take a lot of pride in acknowledging the struggle they had to go through to get where they are today hence that is the reason why a lot of love is placed on it.

However, not all the people have the same mentality when it comes too jazz, in fact, some highly despise it as it acts as a painful reminder to the former years. During those times of slave hood, a lot of blood was shed and a great deal of suffering was experienced hence they rather not join the multitudes of people in commemorating such past memories.

Just like any other category of occupation, there are difficulties that accompany this music. The main one is the fact that with the recent years, new compositions are being developed which are more appreciated than jazz. The lovers of this genre have grown smaller in size and in order to revive it, new methods are coming up such as teaching it as a course in schools.

To sum up the above, jazz is a very important aspect of the society and it should be conserved at all means possible. Future generations should be able to learn about their past hence having a clear glimpse of this culture that they are supposed to cherish. For that reason, the advancement of technology has been used to preserve this aspect of their culture.
