The Benefits Of Venetian Shoe Cream

By Eula Nichols

Venetian shoe cream has many loyal fans. It has been made by a small firm called C. A. Zoes in Chicago since 1907 and contains an effective combination of cleaning agents, natural oils and waxes. It not only cleans but shines and protects too.

Leather, unlike rubber or synthetic fibers, needs to be treated with great care to look its best. Think of it as the covering of a living animal, receiving all the oils necessary to keep it soft, pliable and breathable. No wonder it becomes stiff and dry when not treated. The main culprits are heat and caked on mud. Continued flexing of dirty, brittle leather causes a breakdown of fibers and cracking.

This can be prevented by consistent care. The many products available for this purpose makes choice difficult. There are many different types of leather too and some products are more suited to some leathers than others. Whatever product is chosen, consistent application is important to keep the leather soft, pliable and breathable.

This particular product works on kid, calfskin and patent leather and is not recommended for suede or nubuck leathers. A recommendation from Horween Leather Company for use on their Shell Cordovan and Chromexcel leathers has gone a long way towards making it popular. This company has set the standard for high quality leathers and so this recommendation carries much weight.

One can purchase this product from several online vendors. Prices are reasonable, particularly when compared with other products. It may sometimes difficult to find it in smaller quantities. There are 32oz tins available, containing enough product to last for a long time. However, smaller bottles of 4oz are currently on offer too.

The consistency is fairly thick, making it easy to apply. Many people tend to use too much product and in fact only a small amount needs to be used at a time. Surface dirt needs to be removed and the bottle shaken before application. It can be applied evenly with a cloth or worked in with fingertips if this is preferred. To produce a high finish, all that is required is buffing with a soft, dry cloth.

When applying, the texture means that it can enter the brogue holes of the shoes. However this is not a problem if it is brushed off in time. It comes off easily and some people leave it on for almost ten minutes.

Venetian shoe cream can even be used on old shell shoes that have become very dull and dry after years of use. The fact that its color is neutral means it can be applied to two tone leather shoes without changing the color at all. Its effectiveness and affordability make it a popular choice amongst all shoe lovers. They understand the value of treating leather shoes correctly to ensure continued durability and shine.
