The Tension Load Linesman Tool

By Bonnie Contreras

For someone up a pole suspended by little more than a piece of leather dealing with high voltage cables the importance of a tension load linesman tool becomes pretty obvious. The tool bridges the gap between broken or faulty cables while new ones are put into place. This allows the person to work freely and safely to replace the cable.

The items these people need all have to be carried on their person at all times. Usually suspended from a belt or in some kind of belt harness or pouch. Climbing around on steel frames or up poles and working with high voltage cables the worker needs everything instantly accessible to be able to do their job. For this reason all the items have to be compact, light and reliable, the workers need to know the things they use will not let them down.

Like the people these tools are out in the worst of the weather and need to be rugged to survive the hash environment. Freezing conditions, wind rain and snow all find the weaknesses in our power network and that is when we need these people doing the repairs. As soon as the conditions are half decent they are out there getting us up and running again.

So when winter approaches and we complain that we have no heat or light, and can not watch TV or play games, these people are out in the thick of it getting our power restored to us as quickly as possible. Enabling us once more to relax and get back to our regular activities in comfort and safety. We should thank these people for their hard work but we think nothing of what they go through for our comfort.

Working like this is a pretty rough way to live. Travelling the country through the most remote and roughest parts to get to the distant reaches of our habitation. They see little of their families and friends as the work takes them away for long periods of time but they do it just the same.

The lack of fear and sheer determination these people show as they work in dangerous conditions. They climb high structures to reach cables carrying even higher voltage, to work with all their skill, in all weathers. They keep our country running by sheer will power alone.

They are not considered heroes or given any thought or praise as we go through our daily lives. They work every day just like the rest of us for a wage to pay the bills. Yet if they were not there our lives would be a lot less normal and we ourselves would be unable to prepare for and go to work.

The tension load linesman tool is just one small item hanging on one workers belt along with other necessary equipment. However the importance of this tool and its reliability is key to the success of that persons work. Without it their job would be more difficult and dangerous and if it was to break or fail in any way, locating another in such remote and hostile places, could add days to repair times.
