The Idea Behind Turban Colors

By Erna Gutierrez

People wear turbans in desert areas and other places around the globe. Races and religions of specific orientation, however, use this attire as well. Many alternative designs and turban colors are found spanning nations and regions.

Usually the idea behind the different coloration is a symbolic one. Even so this is mostly a personal matter with the wearer. The trendy men would wear the coloration that is darker so that it matches with what they already have in their wardrobes.

The most important aspect of this attire is that there seems to be no hard and fast rules to the colors being worn. In some instance the color would indicate the rank or race of a person. Some who wear the lighter blue ones would address the head chakra.

White would often be worn to extend the aura and will also function as protection. Sikh ministers or teachers often wear navy and royal blue turbans. They wear these as signs of protection. It is also what the warriors would have worn in times of war.

Sikhs everywhere, across the world, wear saffron orange. There is no specific meaning connected to this. It can, however, be related to wisdom and knowledge. Different hues and shades are not always worn for a specific purpose. The sole reason for wearing it would simply be for its look.

They would accomplish this by matching their outfits with their headgear. This is especially popular in the business world where suits are worn. These are therefore mostly black or dark blue. Some men do go out of their way to have the suit color match exactly.

There are such a lot of variations available that anyone could choose from and any one of the many could be worn. Those in the military also have a choice in the likes of camouflage. People in totally different places in life would wear what they opt for. It would be a matter of wearing what you like on a particular day.

The bright ones and hues of different ones are just as popular. These are worn with a sense of pride and joy. By looking at the wearing of the turban in general, the color, the design and the pattern is not an issue.

The matter of how it is worn is seen in the choices made. That is, they would wear it as a way of indicating integrity, ethics, discipline, spirituality, honesty and humility. Men wear it as part of their outfits on a daily basis.

Coming back to white, though, most Muslims feel that it is a sacred or holy color as that is what the prophet Mohammed wore. They also would prefer the color green. The wearing of a turban for Muslim men, however, applies mostly for the non-Western areas.

Men wear it to hide their faces against the sand of the desert areas of Northern Africa. Here the light blue is popular because it represents coolness. They do believe that it points to the coolness of water. Turban colors around all nations, however, do not focus specifically on a particular meaning.
