Have Fun Decorating With Repurposed Home Decor

By Sandra Wright

These days more and more people are finding the joy that comes from creating your very own repurposed home decor objects for your house and outdoor space. These days people don't want to throw away a ton of money on decorative accents for their dwelling. They would much rather use their creativity to come up with new and interesting ways to use things. People are also much more conscious about the planet and the effects that humans have on it. Using old items in new ways is one more way to do something good for the Earth.

If you haven't gotten in on this trend yet, it's easy to get started. All you have to do is take some time to look around. Your house, a friend or relatives house, rummage sales, and even the neighbor's trash are all suitable places to find your next decorative piece. You just have to train yourself to see these items with an eye toward turning it into something new that you'll be proud to display.

Take a lamp from the basement or attic, change the shade and put it on a side table next to your bed. It will be perfect to read by. You may also often find lamps at yard sales. They may start out ugly but you're creativity will easily change their look. Or consider making your own from books that you find at yard sales. Get the lamp parts, glue the book together and make your own table lamp.

Don't be embarrassed to stop by the side of the road to grab something out of the trash if it catches your eye. Many great finds are found this way. It's a great way to get free pieces to use in and around your property. Wood objects and furniture are almost always wonderful finds. These items can be refinished and made to look like they come from a high end store.

Likewise be watchful for things that may be broken, for example, old, metal yard tabletops with a broken leg. The bistro tables work magnificently as a swing to swing from a tree. Simply include chains and locate an appropriate tree limb. At that point hop on and swing away. This is a lovely and fun accent for any yard.

Bistro tabletops can also become wall art. Remove the legs and hang it on the wall over the fireplace. These tables often have beautiful decorative cutouts that make them look beautiful on a wall.

Even something as seemingly useless as outgrown or outdated rubber rain boots can get a new life. Imagine them with pretty flowers growing inside. You can scatter these around the garden and grow favorite annuals inside them.

Now that you've read about some ideas, it's time for you to go on a treasure hunt to find items to repurpose. You'll love the things that you'll find and make once you get started. It might seem a bit strange at first, but it becomes quite addicting once you get going. Have fun and enjoy the process, then show off all of the great things that you created.
