Going To Foreign Places Is The Way NY Travel Photographer Shoots Award Winning Photos

By Lonnie Hahne

Photography is a combination of preparedness and artistic talent. A photo taken by a leading photographer captures the essence of a place, culture and those who live there. New York City is home base to many of the top artists. They do, however, spend much of their time on location. The NY Travel Photographer worthy of top prize in this genre is sensitive to all nuances plus is fully knowledgeable about the optimal lighting.

Outdoor photography is challenging due to the lighting conditions that may exist on any given day. There may be a deadline to meet and it may rain making that impossible. He or she must be ready to shoot one of those spontaneous moments in time that will rarely, if ever, happen again.

Professional photographers bring out those emotions published in the National Geographic magazine. Some earn an income working for travel agencies that need shots of beaches and hotels for their brochures. They sometimes act as tour guides for trips taken by aspiring young photographers. They shoot exotic beaches and rare animals in foreign lands.

Real estate agents need pictures of time shares they are selling in a foreign country. Architects need shots of the buildings they have designed. Prizes are given for categories of photography including spot news. Some of the most prestigious awards are given to photographers who shot a picture on location.

There is a famous and familiar photo named Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima. Back in 1945 it won a famous award. This was a once in a lifetime shot of a significant historical event. Another award winner on location for the Boston Traveler took four pictures from a plane over the ocean. They captured the tragic sinking of the SS Andrea Doria.

These photographers brought their experience and skills to these locations. They were in the right place at the right time. There was no second opportunity and no time to wait for good lighting. Spontaneity and talent helped them win awards by taking advantage of an event in time that would never be repeated.
