Elvis Presley, The Goodmans And Hinsons The Lighthouse

By Helen Long

When it comes to different styles and types of music, there are many artists who fit easily into previously defined genres. Others, many of which include different variations remain largely undefined. While promoting Hinsons The Lighthouse and other music as southern gospel, the sound has often been considered modern or country by a number of listeners.

Founded first in 1967, the band and music represent a somewhat nostalgic version of southern gospel. After having performed live for the first time that very same year, the band became better known. If not for having played a revival in Freedom, California, it is unclear as to the whether or not the band would have found success.

Shortly after appearing in California, the group found bookings at churches and auditoriums up and down the west coast. Later, the band moved on to a shorter version by simply identifying as The Hinsons. When looking to find online versions of songs by the band, individuals should search under all configurations including, The Hinsons, The Singing Hinsons and The Original Hinsons.

The Lighthouse became the signature song of the group when one of the brothers came back with the title and lyrics on a piece of toilet paper in 1970. After the group discussed the need for new material, Ronny, one of the brothers seem to disappear for several minutes then returned with the song which had apparently been written during a short bathroom visit. While first recorded by The Goodmans, The Hinsons also recorded the song shortly thereafter.

The Lighthouse became even more popular once it had been covered by Elvis and The Goodmans. Now, it is one of the most watched videos by Christians on YouTube and other video sites. The group also now has a Facebook page for communicating with friends about events, new material and other associated issues.

Over the years, some listeners attending live shows became bored with the ongoing sermons which often accompanied each song. The band, while disappointed never gave up and continued touring and writing music. Fortunately, for the many Christians who still love the band, many songs can now be listened to, or downloaded from different online resources.

Regardless of the lack of interest in live shows, the group never gave up. In the 1970s, the group began recording music which many thought more modern at the time. Others, seem to think the band had taken on a more progressive country sound which was also quite popular at the time. Whether southern gospel, country, rock and roll or undefined, the band has now uploaded many new and historic songs for fans to enjoy.

There are groups who are well known for a specific genre of music, others which can not be well defined. When it comes to the Hinsons, listeners can now decide by watching videos or listening to audio of songs, past and present. The band, now reformed, hopes many people will listen and find the messages of love and light in the many albums and songs now available for viewing and download.
